The bonnethead shark is a small member of the Hammerhead Shark genus Sphyrna and the part of the family Sphyrnidae. It is an abundant species on the American littoral and this is the only species known to be omnivorous.

This shark can easily identify by its broad, smooth, and spade-like head. The body color from the top is grey-brown while light color on the underside. Female Bonnethead sharks are larger than males.
