Albacore is a species from the Tuna of the order Perciformes. There are six distinct found in huge amount in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans along with the Mediterranean Sea. It comes under the Kingdom Animalia, phylum chordate and related to class Actinopterygii. The species of Tuna belongs to Scombriformes order and from Scombridae family. The albacore is the main target of commercial and recreational fisheries due to the popularity of this fish.

Albacore Tuna has deep blue dorsally body color with the shades of silvery white ventrally. Albacore can reach up to 4.6 feet in length. It has an elongate, fusiform body with a conical snout and large eyes with long pectoral fins which are remarkable. The species mostly found in tropical and temperate waters across the world in the mesopelagic and epipelagic zones. With the maximum length of 1.4 m, the Albacore is the smallest of the Bluefin Tuna. The first dorsal fin is deep yellow and the second which is smaller than first; is light yellow as it is the anal fin.

Albacore Tuna Diet
Albacore Tuna are predators which diet varies very little from season to season. The main source of the food for Albacore Tuna is cephalopods. The Heteroteuthis dispar is most abundant cephalopod which is tiny deep-water squid mostly found in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Other food sources include crustaceans, fish, and gelatinous organisms.
Albacore Tuna Habitat
There are six globally managed stocks of albacore worldwide. These stocks like this one in the south pacific, one in the North Pacific, another in the Indian ocean, one in the Mediterranean Sea, two for the North and South Atlantic. The Atlantic stocks are likely overfished while both Pacific stocks are stable. The Indian and Mediterranean stocks are less clear.

Vertical behavior and diet differed substantially between tropical and temperate latitudes. Albacore Tuna shows a distinct diel pattern in vertical habitat use, occupying shallower, cooler waters below the MLD during the day at tropical latitudes. While at the temperate latitudes, there was little evidence of a diel pattern of vertical behavior in these species.
Albacore in tropical water also takes greater diversities of prey as compared to temperate water. The fish species is the main source for preying in tropical water whereas crustacean is the species majorly prey by the tuna species. Albacore Tuna Mating
The Albacore tuna has a very unique way of reproduction by spawning. The process of spawning is that when the sperm or eggs are released into the aquatic habitat for reproduction to occur. The spawning process usually occurs from March to July. But in some rare cases, the spawning can last long until September. A female can release a large number of eggs in each spawning which can up to 2.6 million eggs. These eggs are enclosed in the oil droplet and tend to develop so quickly as the hatchling starts within 48 hours. The young ones remain near to the area of the hatchling.
