Skipjack Tuna is a medium sized percomorpha fish in the tuna family known as Scombridae. The species belongs to Thunnini tribe. The tuna species is also known as the Aku, Arctic Bonito, Mushmouth, Oceanic Bonito, Striped Tuna, or victor fish. This is an important species for fisheries. The estimated lifespan ranges from 8 to 12 years. The species of fish extensively used in Japanese cuisine that called Katsuo and also used to serve raw in sushi and sashimi.

The Skipjack tuna is a cosmopolitan pelagic fish found in tropical and warm temperate waters which can grow up to 1m in length. It is a fast swimming pelagic fish, streamlined common in tropical waters throughout the world. It inhabits surface water in large shoals which are up to 50k fish, feeding on fish, cephalopods, crustaceans, and mollusks. It is an important prey species for large sharks and pelagic fishes. It has no scales, except on the corselet and the lateral line. This species of tuna is a batch spawner. Fork length at first spawning is about 45 cm that is also known for its potent smell.

Skipjack Tuna Diet
Skipjack prefers to eat the variety of food including squids, small fishes, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates. They are able to swim fast speed to overcome and bite prey. They are also not able to pump water across their gills.
